Antique George III Longcase clock 30hour oak case brass dial John Steel London
Antique George III Longcase clock 30hour oak case. John Steel London was recorded as making clocks in 1799. Hood original glass with brass capped turned pillars. The door has lock and key. 11 inch brass dial with working date aperture and original hands. The dial has false 8 day winding holes which are all original when made by the clockmaker with the chapter ring signed at the bottom. The reason for the false winding holes was due to status in the Georgian period. If it was seen you owned a eight day clock instead of a 30hour clock you were seen to be of more importance but clocks were very expensive to own. The clock is fully working and keeps very good time. Complete with weight and pendulum.
