Antique Musical Westminster Quarter Chiming Mahogany Longcase Grandfather Clock

This is a lovely antique Edwardian mahogany longcase musical / Westminster quarter chiming clock which is ilovely quality. The clock this is of lovely petite proportions which is a lovely feature. The clock is WESTMINSTER chiming or can be selected'CHIME / SILENT' via the selector at'3' also the striking of the hours can be turned off via the'STRIKE / SILENT' selector located at'9'. The movement is nice quality and the clock is in happily ticking and chiming away and the Westminster chimes are a lovely soft mellow sound. The clock is complete with its pendulum and three lovely brass cased weights.

If we start with the hood, this has a lovely arched top. Pretty full turned columns flank the hood door.

The hood door is complete with it's lock which is operated by a key which also operates the trunk door. If we then move down to the trunk it has a wonderful full length door with an inset panel. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which also works the hood door. The trunk door is flanked by canter corners. Finally the base has a lovely panel and is raised on a nicely shaped plinth base. The eight-day movement is nice quality and is happily ticking and chiming away. On the inside of the door is a label which reads'SUPPLIED BY WILSON & HARWOOD 26 MARKET ST.

The clock chimes the hours on Westminster chimes on the quarter hours in such a manner that it chimes a quarter of the tune at quarter past, half the tune at half past, three quarters of the tune at quarter to then the full tune on the hour followed by striking the hour. The dial has a silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals with small Arabic Numerals above. The four corners are adorned with spandrels. The arch is engraved'Tempus Fugit' which is Latin for'Time Flys'. The selector for'CHIME / SILENT'' is at'3' and the selector lever to choose between'STRIKE/SILENT' is located at'9' these can be used to select the chimes to be on or and and or they can be use to switch off the striking of the hours if required.

The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are: 77 1/2 inches (197 cm) high, 17 1/2 inches (44.5 cm) across the hood, 12 1/2 inches (32 cm) across the trunk, 17 inches (43 cm) across the base and 11 inches (28 cm) deep. As can be seen from these dimension this is a clock of lovely proportions. CONDITION: The clock is in lovely condition as can be seen from the photographs, just minor marks commensurate with age and use, and there is a small repair to the trunk located just above the key hole.
