This is a superb antique oak and mahogany longcase / grandfather moon roller clock which has been profusely inlaid to give a very striking effect as can be seen from the photographs. It is faded but in certain lights the name can be read'J. The hood has swan necks which finish with brass pateras the to the centre is a lovely star inlay surrounded in stringing which looks superb. The hood door is inlaid with stringing and flanked by lovely reeded columns. This clock has a lovely painted dial with sprays of flowers to the four corners and to the centre.The dial also is a moon roller, with the moon disk being painted with a country mansion, a galleon, and the man in the moon twice. The case has a lovely shaped trunk door which is cross banded in mahogany and beautifully inlaid. The trunk is complete with lock and key which is working. The trunk door is flanked by lovely reeded columns and below these there is nicely inlaid with stringing.
The base is beautifully cross banded to the top and sides. Then to the top corners are superb fan inlays with a further inlay of stringing to the centre. The front corner are canted and these are also nicely inlaid.The clock is then raised on a plinth base. It measures 84 1/4"/ 214 cm tall, x 19 3/4"/ 50 cm wide across hood, 14 "/ 35.5 cm wide across trunk, 19 1/4"/ 49 cm wide across base x 9 1/2/ 24 cm deep. CONDITION: The clock is in nice condition as can be seen from the photographs just minor knocks / marks commensurate with age and use. A small piece of veneer off the right hood column.
