A Superb Early 1800s 8 Day Mahogany Longcase Clock with Broken Arch Painted Dial by John Bolton of Chester-le-Street County Durham. This clockmaker is listed in Brian Loomes book as being born 1761 (probably in York). And subsequently moving to Chester-le-Street where he operated from 1790 to 1815. The 8-day 4-pillar movement, has been cleaned, serviced, kept running correctly. For several months now, is housed in a particularly handsome mahogany case which is in excellent condition.

Hours are struck on a cast steel bell - see video for the sound effect. The beautifully hand painted broken arch dial has period Arabic figures.

And depicts various country figures and has brass hands including seconds and one showing the date, all fully functioning. The maker's name is sign-written on the dial in old English type spelling. It comes complete with both weights, brass bob pendulum and winding key. The front door for accessing the pendulum is also lockable with brass key. It is also worth noting that the pendulum operates with a good positive amplitude, thus confirming the precision and quality of the antique movement. Sizes: Height 220cm, Width 46cm, Depth 20cm. For locations less that 10miles from LE12 9NH we can deliver (and setup) via own transport - please enquire for cost to your area.
