This is a lovely old George III 8-day clock, probably dating from around 1760. It is unusual in that it rings on a gong - not a bell - on the half hour and the hour. The 11 brass dial has Roman and subsidiary Arabic numerals, a seconds dial and a working date aperture; The movement is in good working order and keeps excellent time. The plain case is medium oak and is in good, solid condition.
The hood has spire finials above a glazed door, and is flanked by spreading cylindrical columns with Corinthian Capitals. The waist has a rectangular door with working lock and key, and the base is bracket-form. H = 223cm W = 51cm D = 27cm.To summarise: A lovely 8-Day Clock in Excellent Original Condition and with a Beautiful Tone to the Gong, which on this occasion we much prefer to a bell!
