Longcase Grandfather Clock by G & F Cope of Nottingham 8-Day, Full Working Order
This is a Lovely Victorian 8-day brass-faced clock by the famous Nottingham company, G&F Cope. It has a silvered chapter ring and seconds dial, Roman numerals, and a matted brass centre. The hood has a break-arch top with a brass pediment, and wooden pillars with polished brass cappings. It has some very neat stringing detail above the dial. The trunk is in excellent condition and it too has stringing. The door and base have marquetry designs. Both hood and trunk are highly polished, and have a lovely patina. The business was based in Holden St. They made most of the public clocks in the city as well as chronometers for the Admiralty.
The Nottingham Council House clock had the loudest bell in the UK - a trait reflected in this clock's bell! Amongst the parish church clocks they built are St Peter's Nottingham, St Mary's Nottingham, St Wilfreds Kirby-in-Ashfield, St Mary's Ilkeston, and St Mary's Eastwood.
