RARE Antique GABRIEL SMITH NAMPWICH NANTWICH Longcase Grandfather Clock Dial

Here we have a lovely and very rare antique arched brass dial by. Smith Nampwich which is the way Nantwich was. Spelt in the 18th century. Alan Treherne records that Gabriel Smith was born in 1656 and married Ann Whittingham on 3 June 1682. He is one of the most highly regarded Northern clockmakers of the early provincial period. His work is highly individual and generally of excellent quality. Further information is included in Loomes,'Brass Dial Clocks', ACC 1998, pp365-370. The approximate dimensions of the clock are: 12 inches / 30.5 cm wide x 16.5 inches high / 42 cm high. CONDITION: The dial is in nice condition especially considering its age. The brass has aged and has a lovely patina as would be expected but could be polished to shiny brass according to personal taste. There is a dent to the bottom right corner and a very small piece missing to the tip of the spandrel, a couple of small dents to arch and the arch is little curved back. Overall general knocks marks commensurate with age and use. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition, as what you view is exactly what you will receive.
