This is a stunning and rare MONTH duration walnut and burr walnut brass dial longcase clock which has a nice feature of a STRIKE / SILENT facility. The clock is in perfect working order.This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home. If we start with the hood, this has a superb arched top which incorporates a lovely deep moulding. Turned columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door and are integral with the door. To the rear are quarter turned columns. The sides to the hood have lovely glazed windows which allows the movement to be viewed. The hood is then finished with three impressive brass finials. If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely shaped full length door which is beautifully surrounded in shaped moulding. The door incorporated some burr walnut with superb grain and has a wide Herringbone banded inlay. The side of the trunk also have two wide Herringbone banded frames of inlay, which is lovely attention to detail. The door has a pretty shaped escutcheon and is complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. The base also has wide Herringbone banded frame of inlay and is raised on a nice shaped plinth base. The dial with makers name of'George Etherington, London', has the four corners adorned with the most exquisite spandrels. The arch contains the'STRIKE / SILENT' facility which allows the striking of the hours to be switched off if required. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals with smaller Arabic Numerals above. There is a subsidiary second dial and a date aperture.
The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers. The movement is a rare MONTH duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order. The pendulum is superb on this clock and has a very rare bob with a pointer which allows the clock to be regulated.
GEORGE HETHERINGTON, LONDON is a very fine and highly regarded clockmaker and is recorded as admitted to the Clockmakers company 1684, Master 1709, Died 1729. 96.5 inches (245 cm) high.20.5 inches (52 cm) across the widest part namely the base. 10.5 inches (26.5 cm) deep. The clock is in wonderful condition, as with any piece over 300 year old there are minor marks / shrinkage commensurate with age. For collection in person, cash on collection.
