Made for a clock to ring throughout a larger country house - typically found circa 1850 - so the'house clock' striking the hours could be heard by all domestic staff of a larger house. Longcase clock bells are typically 4" diameter, rarely 5" or 6" - this is huge by comparison at 8". Dims approx 8" diam, 3" deep, 2kg weight.
